My name is _____, and I’m volunteering with Siembra NC / Make NC Work. We’re a community organization working to make North Carolina the safest and best state for working people. We’re out in the neighborhood today talking with folks about how federal attacks are impacting their families and communities. Too many decisions are made without hearing from everyday people, so we’re here to listen to what matters most to our neighbors.

If we came together to fight for North Carolina to work for all working people, how much would you agree that each of these things need to happen?

Housing: The government should pass laws to stop corporate investment firms from outbidding families for affordable houses and ban landlords from using software to coordinate rent hikes.
Healthcare: The government should protect Medicaid and healthcare for low-income families and lower medical costs by taxing CEOs who make 100 times more than their average worker.
Higher Education: The government should make community college and trade schools tuition-free.
Childcare: The federal standard for 'affordable' childcare is 7% of a family’s income, yet the average North Carolina family pays significantly more. To bring costs down to that 7% benchmark, should the government close tax loopholes for ultra-wealthy offshore accounts to fund childcare subsidies for working families?
Immigration: The federal government should support the local economy and keep families together by allowing employers and universities to help immigrants get permanent legal status.
Household costs: The government should stop Duke Energy from charging residents for power plants that aren't even built yet and prevent large data centers from driving up monthly electricity bills.
Economy: In North Carolina, the average young worker carries nearly $39,000 in student debt while facing some of the fastest-rising rents in the Southeast. To help young adults build a foundation, should the government allow workers under age 30 to keep their first $50,000 in earnings tax-free, providing them an extra $2,000 to $4,000 a year for a home down payment or debt repayment?
Education: Our state's leaders are planning to eliminate North Carolina’s corporate taxes, which will cost the state roughly $2 billion in revenue every year. Meanwhile, North Carolina currently ranks 51st in the nation—dead last—in funding for our public schools. Should the state pause these corporate tax cuts and instead use that $2 billion to move our schools from the bottom of the rankings to the best in the country?
